You can disable it but really unless you actually need it for something specifically just remove it. I used to program in Java so I had it on forever but disabled. I finally took my own advice and just removed it.

It’s the Java Runtime that is the issue – Java is just a programming language. The runtime is the framework that runs lets u run java stuff. And you do not want that in your browser.

note: if you uninstall it per these directions – all you have to do is restart your browser for it to be removed from your browsers :)
